Blog related questions
Who or what is your inspiration? My Great Grandmother. She is on the right hand bar of my blog – “Want to submit a lesson”. Yes, that is she teaching me about the waves of the ocean or telling me to get a good bra, one of the two. We both had great bottoms then. I wouldn’t say that I knew her very well but what I knew was inspirational. She lived to be 104 years old. She taught me about perseverance, the value of friendship, independence, salting scrambled eggs and to love pigs. I think of her often and miss her wisdom.
What kind of camera do you use? When I’m home I use a Canon EOS Rebel T2i. I have a 18-55mm and a 50 mm lens. Mr. A surprised me with this for Christmas – let’s just say there were tears of joy shed. When I’m on the go I use a Canon PowerShot SD1000. Newest to the camera family is a Kodak EIS Video Camera. I hope to soon have some video lessons up on the blog….it’s on the list.
Can you give me some photography tips? I just started taking pictures, well pictures that I want to share with others. I am very much a beginner. But one thing that I do know for sure is natural light. Take any and all your pictures in natural light – it does wonders for your pictures. Daily, I read blogs and their advice on photography – that has helped me a lot. Taking lots and lots of pictures has helped me learn more about my camera and light as well. Love that you can simply delete all the practice shots.

Are the photos on your side bar of the blog you? Yes. The ‘Hello, my name is Kat.’ was taking in 1983. The ‘Submit a Lesson’ is my Great Grandmother and I probably taken in 1984 or 1985. On my About page – those are all of me during different points in my life. And the ‘I am reading’ images are copied from the source, usually Barnes and Noble’s website. The ‘Snacking Lately’ and ‘ The List’ are all images from the websites where they are sold – click on the image to be brought to the individual websites.

Just in case you were wondering.
What is your day job? I am a Personal Chef. I own and operate White Sparrow Food Company. I focus on providing my clients with organic, fresh, healthy and local foods. Before going to Culinary School, I was a corporate Director of Events for 8 years. I have worked for a large real estate investment firm as well as small non- profits- organizing, managing and coordinating their large events. I’m also a wedding planner on the side – completely word of mouth. My biggest focus throughout the planning process of an event is how to use less – i.e. greening the event. There is so much waste – food, paper products, etc…I try to incorporate recycled and biodegradable materials within each event that I manage – thus saving the client money!
Do you have any pet peeves? People that don’t say ‘Thank you’. Mom jeans – no offence. When a cell phone rings at the movie theater.
What do you worry or stress about? Being called on in class and not knowing the answer and turning red. Dying before saying ‘I love you’. Keeping secrets that really need to be kept secret.
What are your favorite magazines? Anything Food/Home Decor/Wedding relate – Real Simple (my favorite), Do It Yourself, Runners World, In Style, Food & Wine.
What is your exercise regiment? Exercise Regiment, you say? Well, I consider myself an avid runner. I’ve run 1 marathon and hope to run several more. I’ve also run several half-marathon and hope to run more of them as well. I down hill ski, hike, and ride my cruiser bike to the ice cream store. I partake in pilates and yoga when I feel like it.
What are your indulgences? I love buying home decor. I think I might be addicted. In 2010 we tackled a huge house updating/renovation project – since then I’m hooked on making our home a home. I also love white plates. Really nice sheets. Shoes. Funky earrings, necklaces, scarves and spices. But a really good piece of chocolate and letting it melt in your mouth is always good too – I wouldn’t turn it down.
What are your favorite places to shop? Loaded question. I’ll try to keep this short and sweet. I love buying locally produced and supporting local businesses. Farmers Markets and local food shops are my favorites. But for those of you that don’t live in Denver, I love… Anthropology, William Sonoma, Urban Outfitters, Cost Plus World Market, Sur la Table, Home Goods, Barnes and Noble, Nordstrom Rack…there are more but that’s enough for now… And then stores that I wish would open in Denver… Trader Joes and Dunkin Donuts.
What are some of your favorite things? Red wine. Cheese boards with nuts and honey. Girl talk. Mr. A and I skiing together through the trees. Really really good hot coffee. Sharp Knives. Good (aka expensive) pots and pans. Heated car seats. Heated ski boots. The times when Mr. A tells me his feelings. The Food Network. White v-neck t-shirts. Mascara. Loud rap music on a long run. Chick Flicks. The feeling I get when you find cash in Mr. A’s pants while doing the laundry.
For all those inquisitive minds, here are some personal questions answered.
When did you get married? October 2009. Beaver Creek, Colorado.
How old are you? 3-0!
Where do you live?Denver, Colorado. It’s gorgeous here.
Where is Mr. A from? He is 100% Irish. Born in Scotland. Moved to the States when he was 3.
Do you have any pets/kids? Salomon (aka Monkey) is our gray tabby cat. We aren’t per-say-cat people and I’m far from a crazy cat lady. I adopted him from a shelter pre Mr. A. He is cool as far as cats are concerned.
What countries have you been to? in no particular order…New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belize, Canada, Mexico, St. Lucia, Tortola, and Maine. Oh wait, Maine isn’t a country but it sure it hard to get to from Colorado but oh so worth it. Go in the summer. On our list to visit in the near future – Chile for a ski trip.
Tell me something random about yourself. I could travel for the rest of my life. I love being home but traveling does something to my soul. One more thing: I only speak English and regret not paying more attention in my high school Spanish class. I am now intimidated by foreign languages and envious of those that speak fluently. Also I want to have chickens in a chicken coop in our backyard – Mr. A isn’t having it.

*I am not a professional writer. I am putting on paper – well virtual paper – what comes to my mind. I know there are probably grammatical errors. Periods where there technically shouldn’t be. Dashes where they shouldn’t be. But that’s me. I’m not prefect. I want my writing to feel like you are talking to me – me talking to you. So there you have it.
